Catching Up

I know it's been more than a month since I posted last. Turns out, there is just no slow and steady way for us to move :) I am consoled by the realization that I haven't made this blog public yet, so no one is checking in these days...

Here's what's happened in the past month..

Our government passports arrived - did I mention this before? We have special ones we will use for military travel only. Not exactly sure why.... Hubbalicious says that in some cases, they're for emergency evacuations (medical attention or, God forbid, a situation in our new "home country" that would require us to be evacuated). All I know is, we can't go to Germany without them, so we're glad to see them accounted for!

I had a business trip (Bangkok) which allowed me a stopover in CA to see my family one last time. Hubbalicious met me there and we tried not to think of it as a "goodbye" trip. What a great visit!!

We had a busy weekend of Change of Command activities. If you have the opportunity to attend a Change of Command or Retirement Ceremony with the military - I would recommend you take it! It's a really neat mixture of patriotism, tradition and personalization that is a sight to see! The Command that we are leaving has truly felt like a community and a family to us. Hubbalicious deployed with a great group of guys, and I was able to spend time with their wives while the boys were away. There were old friends at this squadron with whom Hubbz enjoyed working with again - and new friends that I made through the spouses' club for whom I feel so blessed to know. We are excited and sad to move to our next adventure.

We also had some important visitors from CA in the weekends leading up to the arrival of the movers. My friends from college came one weekend and attended our "Empty the Wine Fridge" party. (the wine fridge is 110 volts....bummer). And my parents came over last weekend. Both visits were delightful and made us excited for the opportunity to show our loved ones around Germany soon.

Once we did the little projects leading up to the move itself (sorting the Christmas decorations for storage vs shipping, deciding which clothes to bring vs. store, etc), the actual organization for the move didn't take too long. We spent about 60-90 minutes in each room. We took all of the items for storage or express shipment and put them in one closet or into the office and called those rooms off limits to the packers. We tried to be brutal with the sorting - but, let's be honest, the Hubbz and I are both homebodies and we like our stuff! Stay tuned for how that worked out for us on the other side....

It turns out that the packing and moving days themselves are pretty boring. We were there to answer question and walk through rooms to make sure items were all included in the pack out - but really, we did a lot of sitting. In fact, I'm sitting here now, waiting for the big truck to arrive with no cable and most everything I own in boxes. Hurry up and wait...whoa - they just arrived. More soon!!
